Editorial Reviews
Recorded live when the pianist was 83 years old, this recital marked Horowitz' first concert in Berlin since 1932, and just weeks after his first concert in Moscow since he departed his home country in 1925. The performance has the air of a valedictory lap, an impression only enhanced by the rapturous audience response and in his choice of repertoire of Scarlatti, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Chopin, Schumann, and Moszowski, all terrain that he covered well throughout his career.
Despite the occasional wrong note, the pianist still possessed the power to leave music lovers breathless: his gift for color and for projecting voicing are as alive and as rich as ever, and Horowitz fans will want this issue, if simply to bask in Horowitz's glory.
