Carnegie Hall. For over a century its name has been synonymous with artistic excellence. It’s universally recognized as the premier concert venue in the world and artists in every musical genre aspire to perform there. May 5th marks the 120th anniversary of Carnegie Hall’s opening, an event that featured Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky conducting the Symphony Society of New York (one of two orchestras whose 1928 merger formed today’s New York Philharmonic) in his Festival Coronation March. That concert established the still thriving Carnegie Hall tradition of presenting the finest artists and the best music.
The walls of Carnegie Hall are adorned with photos of legendary artists who have performed on its stage and they are all members of the pantheon of classical music greats. Thankfully, many of these great performers have left recordings of their Carnegie Hall concerts and we are honored to present some of them.
