Description
From a musician much better known as a pianist and composer comes this surprisingly assured and original short piano piece. Vladimir Horowitz (1903 - 1989) is one of several pianists billed at some stage in his career as "The Last Romantic," although Shura Cherkassky got that description after him and Horowitz was, at any rate, a pianist of the steely-fingered twentieth century Russian breed.
Through music history it has not been at all unusual for pianists to write at least encore pieces for themselves, but there are indications that Horowitz showed some talent for composition during his conservatory years.
